FAQ's

Here are the most common questions we get. Please contact us for any questions not answered here.

Materials & Process

Our techniques and the names of the processes.

Book Matching is when two adjacent slabs of wood (cut from the same log) are opened up like the pages of a book, so their grain patterns mirror each other.

How We Do It. Imagine slicing a log down the middle, then laying the two pieces side by side with their inner faces up. Because they came from the same place in the tree, their grain, color, and figure line up in a beautiful, symmetrical way, like a reflection in a mirror. In live edge table tops, this technique creates a balanced, artistic look while keeping the natural edges of the wood visible.

A waterfall edge is when the wood from the tabletop continues down the side at a 90-degree angle, like water flowing over a ledge.

Instead of attaching a separate leg, the same piece (or matching grain) of wood is miter-cut and joined so the grain pattern “flows” naturally from the top down the side.

This creates a seamless, modern, and sculptural look, as if the wood is “pouring” over the edge.

Example: A live edge walnut slab bends down at one end to form the table’s side, keeping the grain continuous, that’s a waterfall edge.

Wood naturally expands and splits over time. Bowties are structural elements, creatively placed to bind the wood and keep your furniture looking the same for decades or more.

More simply… Bowties are the artistic master to prevent a disaster.

Each piece is sealed with a high-quality, urethane finish that is formaldehyde-free and fully cured within seven days, providing durable, long-lasting protection. We also offer hand-rubbed oil finishes upon request.

All bowls, charcuterie boards, and cutting boards are treated exclusively with food-safe mineral oil and wax.

Epoxy resin fills are carefully poured, crystal-clear or tinted resins used to stabilize and preserve the natural cracks, knots, and voids in live-edge slabs while maintaining the integrity of the wood. At TreeForm Studio, we use premium-grade epoxy to enhance structural strength and highlight the organic character of each piece, turning natural imperfections into striking design features.
